C.E.O - has over 30 years' investment and trading industry experience in Asia, primarily in securities broking and executive search in Hong Kong and Tokyo, but also in dealing with global financial institutions, alternative & traditional fund management firms and shipping/commodity companies.
Following qualification in international trade and becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Robin worked in London and Hong Kong with major shipping fleets and charterers, including the in-house shipping activities of Jardine Matheson. He later joined the leading independent Asian equity brokerage business Crosby Securities and was soon responsible for its business in Japan. He opened the firm's office in Tokyo in 1992 and managed the growth of the business to deal with all major Japanese institutional clients. He then moved to be Sales Director of ING Baring Securities in Singapore and the investment bank BZW in London. Keen to return to Asia, Robin opened his own business, AFM, in Hong Kong and Tokyo in 1998 and later established a fund management outsourcing business which promoted third party alternative and traditional fund management firms to the Asia/Japan investor base.
Partner - has over 30 years' business experience, firstly in the legal field and then in the maritime industry in London, Tokyo, Athens and Shanghai, mainly handling ship Sale & Purchase, long-term chartering and projects, but also dealing with ship-management, insurance, registration, manning and related aspects of ship-owning. Tony qualified and practiced as a barrister in London, before moving into shipbroking with RB Hunt & Partners. After several years he moved to Tokyo to represent RB Hunt, working in the Japanese ship-owning subsidiary of publicly-listed Sankyu Inc., a major logistics and engineering group. He then moved on to work on his own account in ship Sale & Purchase and chartering, also giving legal assistance to Japanese ship-owners. During that time, he was appointed to the Panel of the Tokyo Maritime Arbitration Commission (TOMAC). After 3 years in Shanghai (working for the ship-owning arm of a major private Chinese shipbuilder, where he was responsible for the sale of its whole fleet) and Athens (with a Greek ship-owner, where he handled the purchase of a number of vessels), Tony returned to Tokyo, where he has been re-appointed to the TOMAC Panel. He has undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from Cambridge University (MA, LLB), and speaks a reasonable level of Japanese.
London Representative - recently returned to London, with over 35 years of shipping experience in shipbroking, chartering/freight and owner/operating. Nick initially started in London back in 1980, working for The West Hartlepool Steamship Company, before joining Century Chartering, the London broking arm of Marc Rich, where he was posted to New York and then to Hong Kong to handle Marc Rich's Inter-Asian freight. He moved on to Anglo Eastern Shipping and then, with colleagues, established Argosy Chartering, evolving into Kellett Shipbrokers, a joint venture with Unicorn (Grindrod) and Galbraith's. Following this Nick joined Pacific Basin to head up its initial venture into trading freight and subsequently he moved to Stamford, Connecticut, with SSY, and then established the New York office for Metall und Rohstoff (MUR). He relocated back to London with MUR, before re-joining Century Chartering which subsequently merged with GFI. Nick also established the London office for PGSC, worked for Galbraith's lecturing on dry cargo at their shipping course and set up the London office for ISL Dubai. Most recently he was working in Shanghai with China Shipping establishing a Supramax break bulk shipping line called China Shipping Project & Bulk.
Advisor - has over 20 years' experience in FX Derivatives trading and the Cash/Derivatives Exchange business. Tak started his career with the Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank before joining Chemical Bank, New York with responsibility for Japanese corporate FX trading. Then he moved to Barclays Bank, London in 1990 where he was responsible for starting a new Japan desk in the treasury division, followed by a five-year term with LIFFE (London International Financial Futures & Options Exchange) where he headed the Japan desk. From 1998 until 2003 he then worked as the Deputy Chief Representative for the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and then with Xinhua Finance as Managing Director of Corporate Communications.
Advisor - has over 20 years' investment industry experience including over 10 years at major foreign and domestic asset management firms, mainly in marketing. He started his career with Nikko Securities and worked in various sales / marketing roles globally, then enjoyed a solid career in fund management marketing with Nikko Asset Management, AllianceBernstein and, before joining AFM, he was Marketing Director of Janus Capital International Limited, an arm of US based Janus Capital Group. He earned a bachelor's degree in law from Meiji University, an MBA from Georgetown University and he speaks fluent English.
